Two members of the Cuyahoga Heights Schools community were recognized for their outstanding impact and achievement at the 2026 Annual Excellence in Education Awards, hosted by the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio and the State Support Team for Region 3.

Under Ohio’s Statewide System of Support, the State Support Team is a regional educational service provider that helps school districts in Cuyahoga County implement evidence-based practices for special education, early childhood education, and family engagement to improve student outcomes. Held May 15 at the Holiday Inn Independence, the awards program celebrated students, peers, and educators whose dedication and perseverance embody this year’s theme, “My Story, My Strength.”

Among this year’s honorees was Lisa Meyer, an intervention specialist at Cuyahoga Heights Elementary School, who received the Educator Award for her extraordinary contributions to students with exceptionalities. Meyer has dedicated 30 years to special education, consistently demonstrating a deep belief in every student’s ability to succeed. Known for her optimism, resilience, and individualized approach, she sets high expectations while providing the support and creative strategies students need to reach their goals.

Meyer’s impact extends beyond the classroom. She builds strong, trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues, while modeling perseverance and self-advocacy. Her leadership and unwavering commitment continue to inspire those around her and empower students to reach new heights.

Also honored was Cuyahoga Heights High School senior Aiden Marvel who received the Student Award for his remarkable growth and achievement. Aiden’s journey is one of determination and transformation. After facing early academic and personal challenges, he made a purposeful commitment to improvement that reshaped his high school experience.

Through hard work and resilience, Aiden achieved significant academic gains, particularly in literacy and mathematics, while emerging as a confident classroom leader. He actively participates, encourages his peers, and approaches each day with a positive mindset. His ability to turn challenges into opportunities reflects the very spirit of this year’s theme.

As the Cuyahoga Heights community celebrates these accomplishments, their stories serve as a powerful reminder that growth is always possible and that each individual has the ability to make a difference.
