Surrounded by family, friends, coaches, and staff, three outstanding Cuyahoga Heights High School (CHHS) student-athletes proudly made their college commitments official by signing national Letters of Intent on May 1. In signing, Gavin Chamberlin, Maurie McClardy, and Aden Ewelt agreed to continue their athletic and academic careers at the collegiate level.
Multi-sport athlete Chamberlin signed to compete in both football and track & field at Baldwin Wallace University after an accomplished athletic career at CHHS. A standout fullback, Chamberlin earned first-team All-Conference and first-team All-District honors during both his junior and senior seasons and was named third-team All-Ohio. He was also selected as the team’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2025 and Most Improved Back in 2024. Over his high school career, Chamberlin rushed for more than 2,000 yards and scored 37 touchdowns.
On the track, Chamberlin excelled as a sprinter, earning second-team All-Conference honors in the 100 meters as a sophomore and later achieving first-team All-Conference recognition as part of the 4x200 relay team. He helped set a new district championship meet record in the 4x200 relay and was part of a third-place state meet finish. Chamberlin was also named Outstanding Sprinter during both his sophomore and junior seasons. He plans to major in business at Baldwin Wallace with aspirations of starting a house-flipping business.
McClardy will also continue his track and field career at Baldwin Wallace, capping an exceptional four-year run as a multi-sport athlete at Cuyahoga Heights. A four-year varsity letterman in basketball and track and field, McClardy earned numerous honors in both sports. On the basketball court, he received the Bob Mantell Unsung Hero Award, was named Team MVP, earned first-team All-CVC and first-team All-District honors, and received Special Mention All-Ohio recognition.
In track and field, McClardy qualified for the indoor state meet multiple times, finished as Division IV indoor state runner-up, and later captured a Division IV indoor state championship while setting a state record. He also holds school records and earned regional champion honors outdoors, along with first-team All-CVC and all-district selections. McClardy additionally set a George Gross Meet record and participated in the 2023 CVC Leadership Program. He plans to continue his education at Baldwin Wallace while exploring potential academic majors.
Ewelt signed to compete in track and field at the University of Mount Union. A four-year varsity letter winner, Ewelt competed in the long jump, pole vault and hurdles. During his career, he qualified twice for the indoor state meet and also advanced to outdoor state competition. Ewelt plans to major in pre-med at Mount Union and hopes to pursue a career as a radiologist.
Director of Athletics/Activities Paul Gerycz praised the three seniors for their commitment, perseverance, and leadership, noting their years of hard work both in the classroom and in competition. “Their signings mark not only personal milestones but also reflect the success of CHHS’s athletic program. We wish them continued success as they prepare to represent their school at the next level.”
