Learning to lead, both on and off the field, was the focus of a student-athlete leadership conference held at Beachwood High School in November. The conference brought together students from the 25 schools that compose the Chagrin Valley Conference (CVC), including several sophomores from Cuyahoga Heights school (CHHS).
Led by Ted Weis, the students engaged in interactive team-focused activities to learn skills to make them better teammates, leaders, and learners, and to utilize these skills in their everyday lives.
“I learned that in order to be a leader, you have to listen to everyone’s ideas,” remarked Cailey Sane. “I now have a better understanding of how to work with others and to become a better leader in school, during extracurricular activities, and outside of school.”
“Seeing what makes a person a leader will help me in sports because I will be able to take action and help new players on my team,” noted classmate Nolan Juhnke. “We will be able to communicate and make plays.”
“The workshop helped me improve my teamwork and communication skills, and to help me grow as a leader,” added Addison Deka. “I learned how to work as a member of a team, listen to others, to take action when needed, and how important it is to stay positive while leading and helping others.”
Other students attending included Sophia Meklemburg, Alexis Unger, James Henley, Zander Meriwether, and Nate Melendez.
