Decorated cake

About 65 senior citizens from the communities of Brooklyn Heights, Cuyahoga Heights, and Valley View turned out for an evening of good food, great company, and live music at the annual “Seniors Serving Seniors” dinner held on October 22 at Cuyahoga Heights Village Hall. As is the tradition, the event is hosted by the Cuyahoga Heights High School senior class, which this year, is the Class of 2026.

Superintendent Matt Young welcomed everyone and introduced district administrators, board members, and the Class of 2026’s student volunteers: Taylor Andrews, Camryn Barnes, Logan Fesler, Blaine Hunter, Isaiah Long, Nate Mandich, Aiden Marvel, Isabela (Isa) Melendez, Lillian (Lily) Nichols, Savannah Peck, Ryleigh Ressler, Savianna Taylor, and Zander Tichy. The volunteers helped decorate the room, prepare the food, serve dinner and pour coffee and drinks.

Attendees enjoyed a delicious feast composed of a salad of mixed greens with grape tomatoes and cucumber, pork tenderloin with mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes with brown sugar, bacon green beans, a roll and butter, and their choice of almond or chocolate cake with butter cream frosting for dessert.Local caterer and CHHS alumnus Mark Chase coordinated the food preparation with the aid of the students.

The Mighty Red Wolves Marching Band entertained the crowd with selections from this season’s football halftime show. They included “Oye Como Va” by Santana, “Margaritaville” by Jimmy Buffett, “Copacabana” by Barry Manilow, and the CHHS Fight Song and Alma Mater.
