Cheers punctuated the usual morning convocation at Cuyahoga Heights High School for the first Student/Staff Friday Funday Challenge on October 3. Launched by the Student Council, the weekly challenge aims to create a positive and fun learning environment for both students and staff.
The Student Council initiated the challenges to encourage school spirit, promote friendly competition, and strengthen connections between students and staff. “The goal is to build a stronger sense of school community by creating a positive and engaging atmosphere,” said teacher Brooke Niedzwiecki. She, along with Cristi Zawadzki, serve as Student Council advisors.
New contests are revealed each Friday to keep the excitement alive. During the first challenge, a student representative from each grade (9–12) and a staff member competed in a locker combination-lock race. Each participant received three locks with combinations. The first to open all three locks was declared the winner.
As there was no school this Friday, this week’s challenge was a Rock-Paper-Scissors competition. Each student and teacher received a beaded necklace and challenged one another to a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors. Winners won all their opponents' beads. The contest began on Tuesday with students and staff with the most beads facing off in a final tournament on Wednesday.
“Ultimately, it’s about ending each week on a fun, upbeat note that brings everyone together,” Niedzwiecki concluded.
