Students in Becky Voytek’s Human Anatomy and Physiology course at Cuyahoga Heights High School got a hands-on learning experience by dissecting a sheep brain in class. The activity provided an up-close look at the brain’s intricate structure, including the cerebrum, cerebellum, and brainstem.
“By identifying key anatomical features, students were able to connect their lectures to real-world application,” noted Voytek. In addition to performing the dissection, the students also designed their own surgical caps. Each cap featured hand-drawn illustrations representing the functions of the brain’s lobes.
The Human Anatomy and Physiology Course provides students with an in-depth understanding and working knowledge of the human body, including the structure and function of cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems.
