In a ceremony on November 14, the standards of Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship took on new meaning for selected students from Cuyahoga Heights Middle School (CHMS) and Cuyahoga Heights High School (CHHS). The CHMS students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society while the CHHS students were inducted into the National Honor Society.
The day began with “tapping” the new inductees during fourth period classes, thereby informing them of their selection. Each inductee was presented a badge signifying their accomplishment. A celebratory luncheon was held fifth period in the North Gym followed by a rehearsal of the induction ceremony to take place later that evening in the Paul L. Baumgardner Auditorium
“Members of the Honor Societies embody fundamental principles, which they call pillars. These are: scholarship, service, leadership, and character, and also citizenship for NJHS. Each of these pillars represents a valuable aspect of personal development and will contribute to your overall success later in life. . .” said CHMS/CHHS Principal Scott DeTray. “Taken together, these pillars represent a comprehensive framework for personal growth and development. By embracing these pillars, each of you can develop the skills and values necessary to lead fulfilling and successful lives, as well as make a positive impact on the world around us.
NHS officers took turns lighting candles representing each principle while their meaning was explained to the audience.
NHS/NJHS Advisor Desiree Siley then invited the new JNHS inductees to recite their organization’s pledge, followed by the new NHS inductees reciting their pledge. Each inductee was presented a certificate and invited to sign their name to the organizations’ register.
