Junior to Compete in State BPA Contest

Cuyahoga Heights High School junior Brandon Blasinsky will compete at the state Business Professionals of America (BPA) competition to be held March 9-10 in Columbus, Ohio.

Blasinsky, who is enrolled in the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center’s Medical Administrative Specialist I Program, earned the right to compete based on his outstanding performance at the regional BPA competition held in February. Competing schools who participated in the regional contest included Parma Senior High, Normandy, Bedford, Maple Heights, and Chagrin Falls.

Blasinsky competed in three categories: Intermediate Word Processing, Medical Terminology, and Five-Minute Prepared Speech. In the Medical Terminology category, he took second place out of 24 students who took an online exam. In the Prepared Speech category, he won first place. “I had to prepare a speech and give it to a judge who evaluated my presentation based on my words, how I spoke, how I presented myself, eye contact, etc.”  he said.

He said he gained a great deal from participating in this event. ”I thought this competition was a great experience. It got me out of my comfort zone and I enjoyed it a lot!” Blasinsky is the son of Crystal Swimm of Brooklyn Heights.
