In the Spotlight: Joel Kovitch

An enthusiastic and passionate personality.  Fierce dedication to our school.  Spending an enormous amount of time on-campus coaching basketball and announcing school events.  All these attributes point to Joel Kovitch, Cuyahoga Heights Middle School/High School Physical Education teacher who’s also known as “Big Red.” Kovitch is in the Staff Spotlight for October 2021. He was nominated by Angelo Bertolone, music teacher at Cuyahoga Heights Elementary School.

“Joel’s energy and excitement are truly contagious and he has a knack for fostering school spirit,” said Bertolone.

An interesting fact about Kovitch:  During his first year of teaching at Marion High School

in South Carolina, Kovitch was the Soccer Team’s Varsity Head Coach.  He was named Coach of the Year when the team won the region championship.  To this day, this is the only regional championship in Boys’ Soccer history at Marion High.

Joel Kovitch

Kovitch is in his seventh year with Cuyahoga Heights Local Schools.  In addition to his current coaching position, he also coached middle school volleyball for two years. Kovitch has also coached football and basketball in other school districts.

“I’d like to thank Mr. Bertelone for nominating me,” said Kovitch. “This recognition has shown me that people close and near recognize what you're doing.  A person's impact on people isn't always direct and in this case came from a place that I never expected.”

The Board of Education recognized Mr. Kovitch at the October 20th meeting.
